Zak Boca has been an executive and entrepreneur in the infrastructure and web hosting space for more than 10 years. Prior to his involvement with SingleHop, Zak co-founded and operated midPhase, a web hosting provider with over 160,000 customers.
Zak has been recognized by numerous national publications for his leadership. In 2006, Zak was nominated for Inc. Magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year and went on to be a Reader’s Choice Entrepreneur of the Year for 2006. In 2010, Zak was nominated to Crain’s 40 under 40 in Chicago, as well as appearing in the TechWeek 100 list, and receiving both an Illinois Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2011, and Kentucky Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2011. In his off time, Zak can be found traveling and exploring the great outdoors with family and friends.
Dan Ushman began his career in the internet infrastructure industry at midPhase Services, Inc., a shared hosting provider that grew to over 160,000 customers before being acquired by UK2 Group. At midPhase, Dan contributed heavily to its rise from a small company to one of the largest shared hosting providers in the United States with over $18 million in revenue.
At SingleHop, Dan focuses on the company’s marketing strategy and operations, leading the company’s growing marketing team and working to bridge the gap between marketing, sales, and technology. Dan believes heavily in differentiation, and focuses on highlighting SingleHop’s unique and powerful technology platform, which helps it stand out from its competitors in a saturated and fragmented marketplace.
Dan regularly attends and speaks at industry and marketing events. As a recognized thought leader in online marketing, Dan is one of the few Internet marketing professionals to hold a Horizon Award for Marketing Innovation. When he isn’t working, Dan can be found in his kitchen whipping up homemade BBQ sauce or in front of the grill with a spatula putting that sauce to work.
Andy Pace has built his career in the Internet infrastructure industry, holding positions at an early age as a server build technician to system administrator. This experience helped Andy become one of the industry’s most respected and well known technologists. As the Chief Operating Officer for SingleHop, Andy oversees everything from data center operations,to server installs, to the implementation of new products.
While Andy holds numerous technology certifications, his most valuable attribute is his decades-long, real-world experience in the field. Leveraging that experience, Andy brings a rare blend of technical know-how and operational foresight that helps him lead SingleHop’s world class operations team.
Today, Andy uses his talents to enhance the customer experience at SingleHop and keep SingleHop on the ‘bleeding’ edge of technology in the industry. When Andy isn’t working on SingleHop’s operations or infrastructure, he leverages his technical expertise to master the science of brewing beer.
EVP of Sales & Service
Mark Cravotta is responsible for global sales and service execution for SingleHop. Mark brings over 15 years of web hosting industry and IT experience to the SingleHop team and has worked in a broad spectrum of capacities. Mark has extensive experience working in sales, engineering, IT systems architecture, security, quality assurance, and business development.
He previously worked at Tier 3 as Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales and Services where he led several initiatives to increase global market share for the company’s cloud-based services. Before Tier 3, he was Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Sales Engineering at DataPipe, an IT managed hosting firm and Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Engineering for NaviSite, a IT managed hosting firm.
Mark holds a Master’s in Business Administration in Finance from Charleston Southern University and a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering Management from West Point. He also holds several industry certifications.
VP of Products
Jordan Jacobs brings more than a decade of business strategy and product development experience in the cloud, hosting, and managed services market to SingleHop. As VP of Products, Jordan will oversee the entire SingleHop product life-cycle through all phases, from conceptualization to market.
Jordan is extremely technical with practical business aptitude derived from professional experiences spanning from cloud architecture and design, to data center engineering. He leverages these skills combined with his adept sales experience to gain a deep understanding of client problems and in in turn designs well thought out and executed products and solutions.
Along with his abilities with handling the challenges of cloud architecture, Jordan also spends his time seeing the cloud firsthand. Jordan is an accomplished pilot and enjoys flying his private plane.
VP of Engineering
Rick Talavera was formerly the CEO of eServer Space Inc., a small Chicago-based start-up that became a large private managed hosting company. Holding the position for more than six years, he led a team of software developers that provided infrastructure and software optimizations for some of the most visited properties on the web. While at eServer Space, he supplied his clients with a fully embraced cloud infrastructure platform, utilizing local VMware-based hypervisors, as well as the leading cloud provider platforms. Rick also spent two and a half years as the CTO of Site Canvas where he led a team that provided technology consultant services to the web properties of several music industry stars. He also developed a CMS platform that delivered more than two million unique visits a day with a minimal hardware footprint.
VP of Channel
Mark Mercado is Vice President of Channel Sales with SingleHop. He is responsible for SingleHop’s channel sales strategies and works in conjunction with the rest of the senior management team to provide a blueprint for channel growth and partner development.
A proven industry veteran with over 15 years’ experience launching and building hosting and data center centric channel programs for some of the largest providers in the industry. Mark has held key director and senior regional management roles with QTS Quality Technology Solutions, Qwest Communications, and Savvis Communications promoting the sales of managed hosting, managed services, and data center services. As channel chief for NaviSite Inc. and then Latisys, Mark led global and national channel efforts for both companies and was responsible for creating and implementing highly effective marketing and sales strategies that contributed major growth to both companies.
He holds bachelor’s degrees in business administration and history from Elmhurst College, as well as tech sector certificates, including VMware product certification.
Director of Information Security
Andrew Brooks is SingleHop’s Director of Information Security. Prior to joining SingleHop to play defense, Andrew spent most of his career in the consulting and financial sectors as an attack-focused security expert. With a background in reverse engineering, application security, and incident response, Andrew has spent his career working to secure some of the world’s most critical financial infrastructure for organizations such as NYSE Euronext and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. At SingleHop, Andrew works to ensure the continuous security of SingleHop’s most critical systems and applications.
Director of Facilities
David Szczur joined SingleHop in 2007. Born and raised in the South Chicago suburbs, Dave is a seasoned performance hardware enthusiast. In his daily responsibilities, Dave oversees and all hardware vendor relations, research, selection, procurement, staffing, and monitoring for all three of SingleHop’s data centers.
Over the years, Dave has managed numerous data center launches for SingleHop, including its two newest facilities in Elk Grove Village, Illinois and Phoenix, Arizona. Today, Dave spends his time managing three data centers and planning the fourth. When he isn’t managing data centers, he likes to jam with his band or work on his hardware rig at home.
Director of Human Resources
Deanna Swanson sits on the company’s senior management team and works closely with the CEO to establish best practices across the organization. She is responsible for the management and development of over 90 SingleHop employees.
Prior to joining SingleHop, Deanna held human resource leadership positions with the Chicago Fire Soccer Club, Driehaus Capital Management, LLC, and Jewish Vocational Service.
Deanna has over nine years of experience with talent acquisition and management, organizational development, culture change, and leadership and staff coaching. Some of the initiatives that she is working on include a broad reaching onboarding plan, career development paths, continued change management, and culture shifting. She proudly holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Augustana College, as well as a Masters degree in Human Resources from Loyola University. Deanna lives in Chicago with her husband and sons.
Director of Marketing
Dave Dunlap started in the web host industry as a freelance writer and marketing consultant in 1999. Dave is a prolific author of countless articles, blogs, commentaries, white papers, and reviews for over 15 years. Having written for newspapers, print, and online magazines in topics ranging from marketing to business economics to search engine optimization and web design, Dave presented the right characteristics to take up the mantle of SingleHop’s Director of Marketing.
In his capacity as Director of Marketing, Dave manages the day-to-day operations of SingleHop’s media pushes and content publications to include the blog Think IT. Dave is an outspoken champion of cloud computing and the opportunity it presents web hosts.
Dave enjoys cooking, gardening, and has a quarter of a century worth of experience building custom computers and networks.
Director of Solution Architecture
Josh Williams is responsible for Pre-Sales Engineering and Customer Onboarding. He has over 14 years of experience with architecting enterprise solutions and deployment of solutions in the enterprise.
Josh holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Information Systems from Saint Ambrose University. Josh also holds multiple data center certifications from all the major data center technology providers such as VMware, Cisco, and EMC.
Director of Network Operations
Mike Davis is responsible for sustaining network availability, stability, and optimization for all data centers with SingleHop. Mike holds over 14 years of experience in the Service Provider industry, ranging from dial-up services and wireless telecommunications to SONET, optical networking, and carrier-class infrastructure. Over his career, he has held positions starting as an engineer, climbing up to director and officer-level roles with previous organizations.
At the start of his career, Mike launched a web hosting service out of his own garage for fun, prior to graduating from high school. Over Mike’s last adventure, he was responsible for the design, testing, and preliminary deployment of a state-wide network infrastructure under a federally funded BTOP project, providing unprecedented new avenues of communications for public safety and other government institutions.
Mike takes great pride and joy in his work. We’d list the activities he enjoys on his off-time, but we already have.
Director of Inside Sales
TJ Waldorf is responsible for leading the operations and execution of the Inside Sales team for SingleHop. TJ brings over 8 years of web hosting and e-commerce industry experience to the SingleHop team and has a passion for delivering an unparalleled customer experience.
As a proven, results-oriented sales and operations leader, TJ has launched and grown several inside sales and account management teams. Most recently serving as Director of Sales Operations for Phoenix NAP, he led initiatives to increase global market share across several data centers with a broad IaaS portfolio of dedicated and virtual servers, colocation, private and hybrid cloud.
TJ holds a Master’s in Business Administration, as well as a Bachelor’s of Business of Science in Business Marketing from the University of Phoenix. He also holds a Six Sigma Green Belt certification along with sales and industry certifications from Miller Heiman and VMware.
