SingleHop works closely with numerous Open Source and Community Based projects to help support them and help them grow. Through sponsorships (both financial and service based) we have helped many projects. Below are a few of our best success stories.

    February 2008: cPanel Local Update Mirror (on going sponsorship)

    Over the past few months SingleHop has been working closely with cPanel engineers in setting up a world-wide update mirror, and as of this month it is live and running. This mirror, like our Kernel mirror (below) is publically accessable, but also results in faster updates for our clients.

    January 2008: Kernel.org (on going sponsorship)

    Kernel.org is 10 this year, 2008, and to help them celebrate, SingleHop has setup a special Linux Kernel Mirror server on our network. The server is publically accessable, however, by being on our network it allows us to receive the latest Linux Kernel source code instantly, which makes upgrades and updates for our clients more pain-free and faster.

    November 2007: CentOS Mirror (on going sponsorship)

    CentOS provides the same stability as any other RPM or RedHat Linux variant without the hassle of licensing, and is one of the quickest to install Linux distributions around. SingleHop is happy to contribute to this Open Source Project by providing a dedicated downline of 2 MBPS and sponsoring a world-wide mirror for CentOS.

    2006 to 2007: TechCocktail

    While we missed the last one, SingleHop has sponsored six consecutive TechCocktail events -- with the most recent three being at the Chicago landmark John Barleycorn. Attendance was in the hundreds -- over 700 to be exact -- at the most recent event.

    October 2007: Chicago Beta Meetup Events

    Chicago Beta was a fun and interesting local Blogger and Small Internet-based Business meetup in Chicago. SingleHop stepped in to pay for all the food and drinks for several Chicago Beta events at the Goose Island in the north side of the Chicago loop. Chicago Beta evetns are very similar to FastPitch but on a smaller scale.

    February 2007: Chicago FastPitch Event

    SingleHop was especially proud to be the only Web Hosting sponsor of the Chicago FastPitch Event. FastPitch was also sponsored by the University of Chicago's School of Business and numerous other organizations. The event itself was a series of 2-minute business idea pitches by young entrepreneurs in Chicago, with the winner (at this event it was GrubHub.com a SingleHop Customer) walking away with a case of cash to invest into their business.

    January 2007: Occaid IPv6 Router Sponsorship (on going sponsorship)

    OCCAID, a non-profit organization, provides a dependable and reliable environment for advancing future internet technologies. Through collaboration efforts, OCCAID creates partnerships between the research communities and ISPs for coordinated commercial research, and to discover, create, share and apply knowledge.The SingleHop POP provides OCCAID with logistics and hosting for Occaid's Chicago node.
