The Just-in-Time Bar Hop at cPanel Conference in New Orleans

Let me tell you a little bit about Jordan Jacobs. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him, Jordan is a gregarious giant. Always filled with stories and jokes, Jordan is someone who will get the job done efficiently while having fun along the way. He has passion for what he does and you can see it when he throws himself into a project. On a side note, Jordan also conducted some of the most successful parties HostingCon ever saw. But I am getting ahead of myself.

cPanel Conference has always been one of my favorite conferences in the hosting sphere. It is laid back, informative, and generally a lot of fun. It is also known as a very non-sales oriented forum. Moreover, if you are going to do something outlandish and fun, cPanel is the place to try it out.

With this in mind we were determined to come up with something amazing. We threw out all manner of ideas, frog blimps with cameras, a reenactment of Frogger using out Poindexter costume, live frogs, Dan and Zak voodoo dolls (yeah.. we went there), but at every turn we couldn’t come up with that special something. My money was on the voodoo dolls, but you take what you can get.

Zak Paperdoll Dan Paperdoll
Zak and Dan paperdolls, could have been a thing at cPanel, but alas it was not so...

The clock was ticking and with the conference around the corner we were really running out of time. And then the pieces fell into place. Jordan Jacobs, proprietor of the HostingCon pub crawl, newly employed here at SingleHop. Lightning struck, horns blew, and an idea was born; bring the pub crawl to cPanel.

To say we were cutting it close is an understatement. For the event, we wanted signs, shirts, wristbands, the works, but printing companies have time limits and when you are going for specialty items like customized silicone wristbands you have to give ample time for creation, which we didn’t provide. And thus the countdown began.

Rapid deployment is what we at SingleHop do. We offer just in time servers using our automation platform. It is one thing to do that on a system were automation is in place. It is another to be able to take that same operational agility and apply it to putting on a bar crawl.

To make this a reality in the small amount of time we had was incredible and I am not just saying that because I had the pleasure of being a part of the team that put it together. Quite honestly I can’t wait for Sunday. RSVP today and I will buy you a drink come Sunday. Cheers!
