A few months ago, I was asked by Bill, one of our Channel Partners to be a guest lecturer at DePaul University’s College of Computing and Digital Media. Bill is a partner with Telecomedic.com, a technology and telecommunications consulting firm that specializes in helping business with IT and communications challenges.
Telecomedic recently become a Channel Partner with SingleHop, selling our complete product line of Cloud Computing, Security, Disaster Recover, and storage solutions.
He is also an Adjuct Professor at DePaul University. As the world of telecommunications and computing have converged, he asked if I could come in an give a lecture on Cloud Computing. While teaching is always something I have thought about doing, actually doing it was a different story!
Since the class was graduate level and Bill told me most of the students were IT professionals, I could get as technical as I wanted. I decided to start the discussion around the most common definition of Cloud Computing and then open it up for discussions.
I took the opportunity to show of SingleHop’s LEAP3 Platform for managing infrastructure as a service, launching servers on demand, loading applications and spinning up VM on command! The students were extremely impressed and the level of knowledgeable and thoughtful questions was impressive. The students did their best to play “stump the guest lecturer with technical questions game.”
Next time I am asked to lecture at DePaul, I am bringing an engineer along just in case!
