    Biography

John Tichnell is a 23-year-old System Administrator at SingleHop. John is not difficult to pick out of the bunch, he is the one that can be reached at all hours of the night. As he puts it, 'I'm the guy that works through the night to make sure everything stays up, so everyone else can sleep peacefully'. How does he do it? Perhaps it's all the caffeine he consumes- if there's chocolate in the office, John will be there. Not to mention his love for coffee, specifically expresso, which is probably why his worst fear is his cup running empty. Throughout the night- while the world is sleeping- John is finishing up build orders, answering dedicated and VPS tickets, consoling servers, answering phones and monitoring network traffic.

It seems a lot of our employees got their start by tearing apart anything with a power cord attached to it, and John is no exception. He grew up dismantling electronics to figure out how they worked. He eventually came across his fathers computer and his dad 'has regretted it ever since'. His love for technology lead him to earn an Associates degree in Electronic Engineering, which he plans to turn into a Bachelors degree this fall.

If you think that working all night means John is sleeping all day, you would be mistaken. After all, he prides himself on the fact that he can go days without any sleep. If it's not nighttime, the possibilities are endless of where you'll find him. He could be out playing paintball or at the casino's gambling. With all the money he wins, he loves to travel around the world. His favorite place to go is Las Vegas and for apt reasons because, like John, 'it never sleeps.' Not only does he love the fast-paced world of Vegas, but also the slower tempo of the beautiful city of Prague. He finds the city's rich history and strong emphasis on art and music irresistible. Of course he also loves tinkering with electronics, even when he isn't at the datacenter. Working on circuit boards and programming microcontrollers are two things he is fond of. And if you don't know what either of those is, John will quickly give you a very detailed, technical explanation of each. If you want the short explanation, though, he'll tell you simply they are 'pretty little cities that make the magical box come to life'.

With all the work and traveling he does, John Tichnell still finds time for taking runs in the park, long walks on the beach, reading by the moonlight at night and 'eating dinner on [his] imaginary sailboat while sailing into the sunset *dreamy sigh*'.
